3 Intervention techniques.

You probably noticed that when you first arrived back home with your new infant, the baby slept most of the time and woke up for regular feedings.

Infant’s usually only stayed awake for feeding purposes and the routine is predictable.

After babies get older they will want to spend more time awake, and this will have to be corrected with training until they learn to sleep alone regularly.

This is when the parent will want to try intervention techniques to help the baby transition into a more acceptable sleeping pattern.

The following methods will all work, but the one that you choose will be a matter of personal preference.

1) The Ferber method.

One method is called the Ferber method, and this simply means that when the baby begins to get sleepy they are put to bed and left alone to go to sleep on their own.

The parent does not return to the room for five minutes, even if the baby cries.

After the parent leaves the room, and when the baby cries out again, they will wait ten minutes before returning.

The process is repeated adding more time between returns until the baby has fallen to sleep.

The following night, parents will want to begin the cycle but wait for longer periods between consoling and leaving the room, until the baby learns how to sleep alone.

2) Move farther away from the baby.

An alternative to the Ferber method is the gradual parent removal method, and this simply means that you will stay with your baby when its bedtime.

For two nights the parent will sit next to the crib until the baby is sleeping. On the third and fourth nights, the parent will sit farther away from the crib until the baby falls asleep again.

The parent will repeat the process until they are no longer in the room.

3) Let them cry themselves to sleep.

Some parents choose the cry out method that just lets the baby cry themselves to sleep. This method is not for every parent who will naturally want to consol the baby when they cry.

You may want to take advantage of the infant’s sleep patterns before you have to deal with a baby who stays awake all night.

When they do have problems falling asleep on their own then these baby sleep training methods should be able to solve the problem.

Parents can get a good night’s rest when they have trained their child with baby sleep patterns that keep them asleep all night long.
